Urimi Meelam and paal kudam

Thaipusam in Perth… Year 2009… 1st year for me out of Malaysia… Quite excited thou… also gives me a chance to tie saree here… I went with Rameas and PS… I was told there is paal kudam and kavadi in the morning and night will be ratham…

There is two big Hindu temple here in Perth… Murugan Temple and Sivan Temple… as we know Murugan temple is famous for Thaipusam… It’s all about Lord Murugan… Ok I don’t want to get to much into why we celebrate it… It’s celebrated on a full moon day on Tamil month of Thai…

Me in the crowd

I arrived at the temple and saw a Urumi melam group… They flew all the way from Singapore… Nice… Felt at home… About 10 people took paal koodum and few took the small kavadi… About 500 people was there… wow so many our people here… We had a good chance to pray… after so long on Thaipusan day…. Back home it’s so crowded and most off us just go to see the kavadi and have fun… In bigger towns it is more commercial… Thaipusam is shopping gallery for many…

Urumi and stalls

Few minutes after I was in the temple… I received a call from amma that perima was in hospital… I called Vili akka… she was crying and me too… I really took the opportunity to pray for perima… and she came out of the hospital in few days time… I thank Murugan for that extra few months given to us…she left us forever on 25th November last year…

The charade

That night we went for the charade… also temple food… The charade was so small and cute… Smaller than some of the kavadis in Ipoh town… Murugan was seated on it and walked around the temple 3 times… All the prayers finish by 9.30 pm… and it’s dinner time… we had good temple food…

Paal kudam

Came home with  happy and full heart and stomach of course… That was my experience of Thaipusam outside Malaysia… and I didn’t go this year… If you are a Thaipusan lover like my thambi (his thaipusam has to be in Penang)… please never leave Malaysia… haha… Our Batu Caves Murugan is waiting for us….blessing us…
